Andrew Buchanan Elementary School 100th Anniversary

Andrew Buchanan

Dear CASD Families,

In September 1922, Andrew Buchanan Elementary School opened its doors to teachers and students. Sitting majestically on South Seventh and East Washington Streets, many people remember entering its beautiful, stone archways. Nearly 60 years later, that beautiful building was destroyed by fire. Students and teachers were displaced across the district while demolition, planning and rebuilding occurred. Over 2 1/2 years later, the brand-new Andrew Buchanan Elementary School opened its doors to teachers and students in October 1982, nearly 40 years ago.

On September 17, 2022, from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, we will celebrate the history and legacy of those two buildings and the excellent instruction that has been associated with Andrew Buchanan Elementary School for 100 years.  Former and current teachers, students, staff, administrators and parents are invited to join us on the school grounds, 730 East Washington Street, to commemorate the school we love.

Registration begins at 10:00 AM. Group photos of teachers/staff/administration, students and parents will be taken from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM. Food trucks will be serving food on the premises from 12:00-2:00 PM. A tour of the "new" building will be at 12:00 PM for anyone who attended the "old" building and has never been inside the new building. Other fun activities that will help you relive the history and the people of those 100 years will also be available. Join us as we share stories and memories and enjoy the fellowship of other Buchananites.
