Chambersburg NJROTC Cadets Head to National Championships
40 Chambersburg Cadets travelled to Colts Neck High School on January 22nd to compete in the NJROTC Area 4 Northeast Regional Drill Championship. The Cadets, in grades 9-12 at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, invested hundreds of hours in preparation and practice for this challenging event and participated in regulation and exhibition military drill, academic and fitness events. Out of the 67 schools in the Navy's Northeast Region, Chambersburg achieved a 2nd place overall ranking on total points and brought home individual event trophies in the following categories:
Armed Exhibition Drill - 2nd Place
Academics - 1st Place
Personnel Inspection - 3rd Place
Overall Athletics - 3rd Place
Sit-ups - 2nd Place
Pushups - 3rd Place
Additionally, Cadet Joshua Mertz earned special recognition for achieving the highest overall score on the academic exam out of 70 participating Cadets.
NJROTC Navy Nationals are tentatively scheduled for March 30th - April 3rd at Pensacola Naval Air Station and will bring together the 25 best schools from across the country.
The Chambersburg Area Senior High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a Citizenship development program of the Naval Service Training Command and the Chambersburg Area School District. The goals of the CASHS NJROTC Program are to build character in tomorrow’s citizens by instilling the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment through academics, fitness and military drill. The program is led by Commander Bruce Apgar (Navy, Retired) and Master Sergeant Louis Montney (USMC, Retired)
