Urgent Message Regarding Rising COVID-19 Cases

Dear CASD families,

COVID-19 cases are rising in our community and amongst our students and staff at unprecedented levels.

In our attempt to keep students/staff safe and to keep schools open, we are asking for your assistance in slowing the community spread of COVID-19. It is extremely important that you check your child(ren) before they come to school for signs and symptoms that could potentially be from COVID -19. They are:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Many students are coming to school with such symptoms and are subsequently found to have COVID-19. This is contributing to the spread.

If your child has one or more of the signs or symptoms above, DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL. Notify the school nurse or school office and call your family doctor.

Lastly, masking, hand washing and social distancing continue to be encouraged (with mandatory masking on school transportation per federal order).

Thank you for your assistance,

Dr. Dion Betts
Superintendent of Schools
Chambersburg Area School District
