In addition to his duties as the Senior Naval Science Instructor, CASHS teacher, Commander Bruce A. Apgar, Jr. (USN RET) is an active Scouter in the New Birth of Freedom Council, Boy Scouts of America. Apgar was recently recognized for decades of service to the Scouting program at an award ceremony on May 15th where he was presented the Silver Beaver award. The Silver Beaver award is the highest volunteer recognition that a Boy Scout Council can bestow on a Scouting volunteer and requires a peer nomination followed by review and approval by the executive board of the local council.
Apgar was recognized for 40 year Veteran status in the BSA, his service as a local unit leader in Troop 186 and Venture Crew 46, his 10 year leadership of the council’s Popcorn and Nuts fundraising campaign, and his leadership and training role on the council’s Shooting Sports Training Team. He has previously been awarded the William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer award and the District Award of Merit. Apgar is an Eagle Scout alumnus of Troop 171 in Boiling Springs, PA.
Apgar was also selected as the American Legion Scouter of the Year by the Pennsylvania Department of the American Legion and will be recognized during the state convention of the American Legion at a ceremony on July 18th. Apgar was designated the NJROTC Area Four Senior Naval Science Instructor of the Year for the 2020/2021 Academic Year for the Northeastern United States.
Apgar has served as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Chambersburg Area School District since 2016.
