Information on Additional Mitigation Measures Announced December 10

Dear CASD Families,

Please see the important information provided by the PA Department of Education regarding the December 10th order by Governor Wolf:

"On December 10, Governor Wolf and Secretary Levine announced additional mitigation measures in response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in our communities. The purpose of this outreach is to clarify how the Governor’s and the Secretary’s Mitigation, Enforcement and Immunity Orders and Limited-Time Targeted Mitigation Orders impact our PreK-12 schools.

The new mitigation orders are effective December 12 through January 4. During this time, all in-person extracurricular school activities sponsored or approved by the school entity’s governing body or administration are suspended, but these extracurricular activities may be held virtually. These include, but are not limited to, attendance at and participating in musical ensembles, school plays, student councils, clubs, and school dances. Academic and instructional activities, such as tutoring, testing, and supplemental or remedial instructional programs are not considered extracurricular activities for the purpose of this order.

All sports at K-12 public schools, nonpublic schools, and private schools also are suspended. This includes all intermural and intramural sports as well as associated practices, conditioning, and workouts.

Additionally, indoor gatherings are limited to 10 people, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 50 people. Although these gathering restrictions do not apply to classroom settings, they do apply to school activities that are not related to educational instruction, such as assemblies, training sessions, faculty meetings, board meetings, school concerts, and similar non-instructional events.

Additional information about the updated orders is available on the Department of Health website."

If you have any questions regarding this recent order, please contact your school directly.
