October 9, 2020 - Reopening Update

Dear CASD families,

We are excited for students to return for in-person instruction under an AA/BB In-person Model scheduled to begin on October 19 for elementary students and October 26 for secondary students. Please note the following:

  • ACTION NEEDED: You are needed to conduct a health screening with your child before school each day. Children presenting with two or more of the following symptoms should not be sent to school AND your medical provider consulted. The same holds true if a daily determination finds that your child has been in **close contact with someone being tested for or is sick with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.

From the Centers for Disease Control

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

*Please note that the above list does not include all possible symptoms, and children and youth with SARS-CoV-2 infection may experience any, all, or none of these symptoms. (See Symptoms of Coronavirus for more information).

  • ACTION NEEDED: Education Option Choice: If you have not done so already, it is extremely important that you choose an educational option (AA/BB In-person, Virtual or CAVE) for your child at this time. To do so, log into your Sapphire Community Portal.

OPTION 1:     AA/BB In-person Model

  • When students are in school on their respective days (students beginning with last names starting with A-K on Monday and Tuesday) and (L-Z on Thursday and Friday):
    • Students are at school and instruction is face-to-face. The day includes a full schedule of classes, lunch and the day’s typical activities.
  • When students are at home on their opposite days:
    • Students are at home and instruction is delivered through virtual learning with the teacher.
    • Instruction will include face-to-face teacher instruction and will tie into Odysseyware/Edgenuity or Google Classroom.
  • Wednesdays:
    • All students are at home and students will be working independently using Odysseyware/Edgenuity or Google Classroom.

OPTION 2:    Virtual Model

  • Students are at home and instruction is delivered through virtual learning with the teacher.
  • Teachers will communicate times for students to login.
  • Instruction will include face-to-face teacher instruction and will tie into Odysseyware/Edgenuity or Google Classroom.
  • Wednesdays: ALL students are at home and students will be working independently using Odysseyware/Edgenuity or Google Classroom.

OPTION 3:    CAVE - Chambersburg Area Virtual Education

  • Students are at home and will be working independently.
  • Students create and follow their own schedules.
  • Instruction is delivered using Odysseyware/Edgenuity.

  • Face Covering: For those returning to the AA/BB In-person Model, face coverings (masks, face shields, etc.) are required. Those choosing to not wear a mask will be provided with a choice of Virtual or CAVE models of instruction.

You will receive more information from your principal(s) and child(ren)’s teacher(s). Please be sure to check the CASD Reopening page for the most up-to-date posts, details on our Health and Safety Plan, and more.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dion Betts
