Parents, Students, Teachers and Community members.
My name is Stan Shilling and I'm the 9th grade Assistant Principal at the Chambersburg Area Senior High School as well as the Director of Counseling Services for the school district. I'm very excited to be serving in this capacity and to assist students in becoming the most productive and well rounded contributing community members that they aspire to be.
Please allow me to tell you a little about myself. Although I was born in York, Pennsylvania I spent the majority of my formative years growing up in the small town of Freehold, New Jersey. I grew up with my parents, an older brother, younger brother and younger sister. After high school I attended Elizabethtown College and Bridgewater College where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1983. In 1984 I completed a Master's of Education Degree in Counseling. In 2001 I completed a Master's Degree in Social Work and I have completed the Educational Leadership Program at Shippensburg University. I currently hold elementary and secondary school counseling certificates, a counseling supervisory certificate, an educational leadership certificate and the Letter of Eligibility.
I have worked in the past as a probation and parole officer for the city of Charlottesville, Virginia, a child/family therapist and a psychotherapist at a residential treatment facility. I made my way to the world of public education in 1997 when I began working for the Chambersburg Area School District. Since working with the Chambersburg Area School District I have been a K-12 Emotional Support Counselor, High School Counselor, Dean of Students, Director of the Freshman Academy, Director of K-12 Counseling Services, 10th & 12th Grade Assistant Principal.
I have been married for 33 years to my wonderful wife Debbie and have two sons, both of whom are graduates of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. My wife is a hospice care supervisor and my younger son is an electrical engineer and my older son is a senior front end designer.
It has been exciting to watch the community of Chambersburg grow as I have lived here for the past 25 years. We have become a more diverse and sophisticated community providing a rich and rewarding environment to raise a family. Along with our growth as a community, we have grown as a school district. It has been exciting to watch our students learn and grow, especially aided by the technological advances over the past 15 years.
It is my goal to assist students and teachers to make their teaching and learning experiences as fulfilling and productive as possible while at the Chambersburg Area School District and beyond. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can help you answer a question or assist you in any way.
