Well hello there!
I am Mrs. Devin Sanders, the 5th grade Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher at Hamilton Heights Elementary. I am so excited to be back at HH for my 4th year in CASD! I have been in the education profession since 2014. This will be my 9th year teaching and each year I know I have grown as an educator. My first year teaching was in Central Florida with a wonderful group of 4th graders. My 2nd and 3rd years were spent teaching Core and Gifted Reading to 6th graders. It was in these early years I earned my beloved nickname... Super Sanders! My 4th and 5th year were a bit of a transition time for me. In the summer of 2017 my husband and I moved from central Florida to Chambersburg. I was fortunate to be a substitute teacher not only for Chambersburg but for Green Castle, Fairfield, Tusscorora, and I even got to work at my husbands alma mater Gettysburg Area High School. Four days before the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year, I was hired by CASD and I have been very blessed to be apart of the HH family.
I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of West Florida in my home town of Pensacola Florida. One of the perks of being from Florida is access to some of the most beautiful beaches. When I go home I spend a good bit of time at the beach to relax and recharge. Most of my family is still in Pensacola so we get to visit them in the summer. We have been know to retreat from the cold for a weekend or two during the winter months as well.
Some people wonder why I would leave Florida to come up to Chambersburg Pennsylvania. The answer is simple... my husband's family is from Gettysburg. When we lived in Central Florida, our closest family was 8 hours away. We are very fortunate to have family that is always there for us even in our most difficult times. As of now, we have a grand total of 13 nieces and nephews. We do not currently have children of our own, but we do have two fur-babies, two fin-babies and 13 feather-babies that keep us pretty busy.
During the school year I spend a lot of time in my classroom. When I am not at school I enjoy going for walks with my dogs, canoeing at Long Pine, crocheting, reading, watching movies, and hanging out with my husband. My husband and I have spent a lot of time together rebuilding old tractors and cars. Our current project is a Pontiac Ventura.
I am excited to meet my new students and parents! We are going to do great things together and become stronger from it! The 2022/2023 school year will be our best year yet!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sanders
