What is ESL?

  • English as a Second Language is for students who speak a language other than English at home.  Some of my students are brand new to the country, and others have been here for years and are mastering their skills in English.  No matter a student's background or culture, he or she is welcome in my classroom!  In ESL, we practice our listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.

Why did Mrs. Bonner choose to teach ESL?

  • My maternal grandmother immigrated to the United States from Austria with her family in 1951 when she was 19.  She only spoke German and took pride in learning English.  She has always been so appreciative of the family that taught her English.  My hope is to be an inspiration to my students and to make learning English fun and memorable! I want them to take pride in knowing two languages!  It is a great skill to have!

Ever since I was a young girl, I loved learning new languages.  Spanish has always been my favorite!  In high school, I took five Spanish classes and in college I earned a minor in Spanish.  I have always enjoyed learning about different cultures and people from all around the world.  I believe that everyone's culture needs to be valued and respected.  I am looking forward to working with your child, and learning about your family's culture.

Did you know?

  • If you can speak both Spanish and English, you can communicate with 80% of people on the planet!
