    "CHASING THE AMERICAN DREAM."

     

     

     

    THROUGHOUT THIS COURSE WE WILL BE ANALYZING THE VARIOUS WAYS THAT PEOPLE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO OBTAIN THE AMERICAN DREAM, AND WE WILL BE EXAMINING THIS CONCEPT SPECIFICALLY WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE WORKS OF SEVERAL AMERICAN AUTHORS.

    Welcome to 11th grade English. During this year, we will be studying various authors and novels. Specifically, we will be closely analyzing longer literary works of such authors as William Faulkner and Ray Bradbury.

    During your junior year, we will be studying aspects of poetry. Poetry by poets such as Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, Walt Whitman, and others will be analyzed closely. Aspects of poetry such as rhyme scheme, meter, theme, poetic form and the lives of certain poets will also be investigated as a means of enhancing knowledge of poetry and to sharpen critical thinking skills.     We will likewise be studying aspects of literature through the American short story. Various stories by American authors such as Faulkner, London, and others will be studied throughout the length of this course.

    During the author study unit, we will closely study the works of a specific author as a means of not only familiarizing you with the works of various writing styles, but for the purpose of furthering your skills in literary periods and analysis.
