It is finally starting to feel like spring! Before YOU spring into middle school, come to math and ELA Zoom classes with Mrs. Werley and I. Contact us through our google classrooms. Parents, please update your information on Sapphire. If you do not have an account, we can help you to contact the correct person. Although we do not know what fall may look like for the school year yet, we are still here to offer you support and guidance. I love hearing from all of you!

No class today. Here are word problems you can discuss on google classroom together, or share with me.

    #1

Two pizza pans of the same size are left at the pizza restaurant. One pan has 1/2 of a pizza, and the other has 3/4 of a pizza left in it. The owner of the shop decided to divide all the pizza into pieces that are each 1/8 of the size of a whole pizza to sell individually. How many pieces of pizza will the owner have to sell?

    #2

Ken is able to read 32 pages in one hour. If Ken starts reading a 360 page book at 6:00 A.M. and he reads straight through the book without stopping, about what time will Ken finish reading the book?

    #3

Paul’s mother made 186 chocolate chip and six dozen peanut butter cookies for the family reunion. They are expecting 36 people at the reunion. If every person received an equal amount of cookies, how many cookies would each person receive?

  • Khan Academy    Website we discussed in class.

You can just use their "search" engine in the upper left corner to access videos and complete practice questions on a specific skill. Example: order of operations.

No math classes on Thursday, May 14th.

  • Students and Families: I did not relay the correct information regarding student belonging pick-up. Please note the correct times below.

    Thank you, Mrs. Kimberly

    Dear BC Students and Families,

This is certainly not how any of us envisioned the year to end, but I hope you are staying positive and safe! Hopefully you are able to enjoy the extra time with your family. All school buildings have received permission from district administration for students to get belongings they may have left in school. Teachers will be working diligently to clean out classrooms and organize items for students/parents to pick up. The following expectations must be followed to maintain safety for everyone:

    • Vehicles will enter the BC parking lot using the same entrance used for student drop off during the school year.  Please follow traffic patterns marked by the orange cones.
    •  All traffic will exit using the exit our buses use during the school year.

    • Please email with any questions shawn.kimple@casdonline.org

    • May 26th 9:00-5:00

    Thank you and take care,

    Shawn Kimple

WHAT AN AWESOME SESSION TODAY! I can tell you are ready for middle school. We started by solving a PEMDAS problem created by Addie, and then used dice to randomly create group problems to solve. The sadness already starts to set in when I think of letting you go this summer!

Parents: I have new information for you regarding your Sapphire Community Portal. There are new forms available on the site for you to fill out online.  If you do not yet have a Sapphire account, the link is below for you to sign up.

    https://casdonline-sapphire.k12system.com/CommunityWebPortal/Welcome.cfm

Parents: If you have an account and have forgotten your login, please email Mrs. Secrist:   melinda.secrist@casdonline.org

If you do not have Sapphire, and do not want it, please email her as well.

    https://casdonline-sapphire.k12system.com/CommunityWebPortal/Welcome.cfm

Padres: si tiene una cuenta y ha olvidado su inicio de sesión, envíe un correo electrónico a la Sra. Secrist: melinda.secrist@casdonline.org

Si no tiene Zafiro y no lo desea, envíele un correo electrónico también.

  • 4/29/20  After Zoom: Today's lesson was a toughie! We will keep attacking it each day and you will notice how the difficulty will decrease. For Thursday's session, if you have a set of dice, have them next to you for our whiteboard practice. If not, you will use my "mechanical dice."

    Before Zoom

Good morning fifth grade! Be sure to come to math today at 1 pm because we are going to look at a new idea: area of L-shapes. I love seeing your faces and listening to your conversations with each other. The code to enter math on zoom is the same. Go to my calendar page for the link. See you soon!

  • 4/27/20

  • 4/21/2020

Word problems and finishers abound...OH MY! It was FAN-TABULOUS to have that many of you today in zoom working through the word problems and working up a sweat 💦 with a finisher in between. SO PROUD! You are finding ways to communicate through zoom easier for each lesson, and helping to teach me better ways to use it as well. Thank you, my technical geniuses! Come back tomorrow...class is every day at 1, using the same log in information. Until next time...

  • 4/17/20 My lack of technology skills appeared again today with my Zoom log-in issues. Thank you to those kiddos that stuck it out and kept trying to log on and then hung out to do fraction work. You are fabulous! I am once again going to keep practicing, and I hope to get better! As I have told you about math, we must embrace what frustrates us and keep going! If we make mistakes, we just keep trying. Endurance wins. Just like the virus we are fighting, we all must endure for a difference to be made.

HELP THEM BY COMING TO ZOOM!
    4/14/20
After trying out Zoom, I have made the decision to add a little new math material in each week. Part of Tuesday and a Wednesday session will cover new material. I will attach my notes (as if you were copying them from the board in class), and provide you with problems to try independently. You will find this information under the MATH page. Today we had an intruder several times. Adelyn can tell you that Oakley was very interested in math and wanted to eat my lesson plans as well as my whiteboard marker. I hope to see many of you soon! Remember, the link for Zoom is on my calendar page. If you have any questions, contact me. Information is listed below.

  • Who is Mrs. Kimberly?

My name is Stephanie Kimberly and I am a graduate of the Chambersburg School District. I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees at Shippensburg University in the human services field and  worked in this field for 14 years. I decided to switch to education and received my teaching certificate at Wilson College.  In 2014 I obtained my K-12 principal's certificate, also through Shippensburg University.

I am married and have two children. My two kids are both are graduates of BCE. My son attends Penn State University and my daughter is a sophomore at the Career Magnet School. My husband is an electrical superintendent currently working in Iowa.

Our family is not complete unless I mention the two fuzzy beasts: Scarlet and Oakley, our lively rottweilers, who keep life interesting!

As a family, we enjoy spending time at the beach, as well as watching each other's sporting events (tennis, running, and snowboarding).
