Q1: When/Where can I sign up for CVA?
A: Check out the Enroll link on this page. There is an enrollment form and calendar for enrollment deadlines and start dates throughout the school year.
Q2: What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning?
A: Synchronous learning is online or distance virtual education that happens in real time. For example, teacher-led instruction occurs within a virtual platform (Zoom, Google, Nearpod, Seesaw, etc.) during specific instructional time periods Asynchronous learning is when education occurs within a learning management system (i.e., Spark, Odysseyware, Edgenuity). For example, student-driven learning occurs on a virtual student-created schedule; virtual teacher support is provided through the learning management system.
Q3: Is there computer equipment available if I do not have a computer?
A: YES. Every student in the district will receive a Chromebook. Parents have the option to purchase an insurance plan for the Chromebook. Without the insurance plan, any damage/theft/loss will result in the parent being charged for a full replacement cost.
Q4: Can I use my cell phone instead of my Chromebook?
A: No. Please know that some online platforms do not support cell phones. If you are using a cell phone to do your assignments, the assignments may not be received by your teachers and your logins for attendance may not be recorded. It is necessary to use your school-issued Chromebook and not a cell phone so your assignments and attendance are counted.
Q5: Where do I pickup my child's Chromebook?
A: Once the registration process is complete, someone from your child's building will reach out for a pickup time. Parents wishing to receive a Chromebook for their child to do online learning will need to register to either opt-in or opt-out of the damage waiver and accept the terms of Anytime, Anywhere 1:1 Learning Initiative at www.One2OneRisk.com.
Q6: Is my child allowed to use their own laptop?
A: It is recommended that the district-issued Chromebook or iPad be used for CVA courses. Although Edgenuity will work on other devices, not all programs do (ST Math, Brainzy, Raz Kids, state assessment platforms, etc.). These programs work through the district’s platform provided through the district-issued Chromebook. Under no circumstances should a cell phone or other data plans be trusted to submit course work.
Q7: Do I have to attend classes daily?
A: All students in Grades K-6 must attend daily live sessions with their teachers. 7th- 12th grade students are required to meet attendance requirements by logging into the learning management system five out of seven days each week (Sunday through Saturday). Students have the opportunity to work on their classes on a 24/7 basis. Live sessions are offered once a week for each course.
Q8: Where do I take my quizzes and tests?
A: All quizzes and tests are taken virtually at home. Academic integrity during testing is imperative and should be monitored by parents/guardians. Standardized state testing information will be distributed prior to the testing schedule. State tests must be taken in-person.
Q9: Can I take some classes at school and other classes online?
A: Contact your school counselor or the Supervisor of Virtual Education.
Q10: Is CAVE an option if my child attends Chambersburg Area Career Magnet School or Franklin County Career and Technical Center?
A: Yes.
Q11: May I attend different events and functions at the school building?
A: Yes, you are still considered a school district student and you can attend all before and after school activities and events (i.e., concerts, plays, pep rallies, Color Day, prom, Homecoming, field trips, athletics, etc.) with a valid student ID.
Q12: Who are the instructors of the courses?
A: The instructors are highly qualified teachers in the Chambersburg Area School District. See Staff section on this site.
Q13: Will I still graduate with a Chambersburg Area School District high school diploma?
A: Yes
Q14: If I signed up my children for CVA, would they have the option to return to their home building during the school year?
A: Yes. We have transition times scheduled throughout the school year. (See Enroll page.)
Q15: What if I have technology problems?
A: Submit a service call through Incident IQ Remote Ticketing.
