Meet my Family!
WELCOME..........Here is a little bit about me........
Hi! My name is Mrs. Shives. This will be my twentieth wonderful year of teaching! I can't believe it has been that long already! I taught first grade for five years, second grade for seven years and this will be my eighth year in third grade. I graduated from Shippensburg University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood. I earned my Master's Degree in 2009!
I married my high school sweet heart (Zach) and we have been married for a total of twenty years. Currently, we live in Upperstrasburg. My husband and I have a daughter and a son. Brooklyn is sixteen years old, and she is my sunshine! She is in eleventh grade and is attending CMS. My, oh my....how times flies. Aslan is my energetic son, and he will be twelve in November. He is in sixth grade this school year and attending CAMS North. I'll be honest when I say that being a Mom is a big challenge some days, but I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for the world.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, gardening, shopping, volunteering, and going to the beach. I would love to live near the beach someday.
I'm so blessed to have the best job in the world! I LOVE what I do! Third graders are so much fun to teach because they are so eager to learn and please. I'm ready for another fun-filled year of adventures!
Here are a few things about ME
Favorite Authors- Too many to name! One of my favorite authors is Patricia Palocco. I love the fact that most of her books are written about her childhood experiences.
Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna is one of my favorite books to read to my students. The message in this book is so true. We must choose our words wisely to avoid hurting others.
When I read for pleasure, I like to read books by Nicholas Sparks, Lysa Terkeurst and Karen Kingsbury.
T.V. Shows- I have to be honest when I say that I hardly ever watch T.V. But, when I do watch television my favorite T.V. show is Heartland.
Food- I have to say pizza is by far my favorite food. I love my mother-in-laws homemade pizza! Vegetables from the garden are a must, too!
Drink- My favorite thing to drink is coffee, coffee and more coffee. Iced or hot. :-)
Stores- My favorite stores to shop at are Target and Kohls.
Season- Summer, summer and summer. Sunshine, swimming and carefree days!
Holiday- Thanksgiving! It is a time to spend time with the people that mean the most.
Mission For The Class
The mission for my class is to create a challenging and nurturing environment where kids can have lots of fun while they learn. I strive to create a classroom community where kids feel safe and take risks while learning. I want my students to understand that it is human to make mistakes and that it is how we learn! I expect my students to do their very best each day. It is my goal to create life-long learners. I want to do my very best each day to instill a true love of learning!
