The Chambersburg Area School District offers Gifted Support services in grades K through 12. In order to receive these services, a student must be evaluated to determine his or her eligibility and need for the aforementioned services. This assessment consists of standardized cognitive (IQ), reading, writing, and math assessments conducted by the school psychologist. In addition, information is collected from the parents and current classroom teacher(s). The test scores and information collected is entered into an eligibility rubric to determine whether or not the student has earned enough points to be recommended for services. It should be noted that the bar to meet in order to be recommended for services is quite challenging. During the 2013-2014 school year, less than 20% of the students in grades K-5 that went through the assessment process ultimately ended up being recommended for Gifted Support services.
If you feel that your son or daughter is a candidate for Gifted Support services, please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have, or you may also speak with his or her teacher about beginning the assessment process.
