     M” Meeting the Standard: Student has a complete understanding and independently meets the standards

    • Always uses good posture when singing or playing classroom instruments, and demonstrates appropriate performance skills.
    • Follows directions and leads others without prompting in tasks.
    • Matches pitches and sings with a good clear tone.
    • Echoes and reads rhythms correctly.
    • Leads, participates and contributes in class.
    • Can identify musical symbols and their meanings.
    • Can distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.
    • Meets the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented and makes connections.
    • Completes all assigned assessments.
    • Scores 85% or greater on written assessments when applicable.

    “P” Progress Toward the Standard: Student has a basic understanding of and partially meets grade-level standards

    • Usually uses good posture when singing or playing classroom instruments, and demonstrates developing performance skills, but may require reminding.
    • Usually follows directions but may need to be reminded.
    • Usually matches pitches and sings with a good clear tone.
    • Echoes and reads some rhythms correctly.
    • Usually participates and contributes in class.
    • Can identify some basic musical symbols and their meanings.
    • Can sometimes distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.
    • Usually meets the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented and makes some connections.
    • Completes most assigned assessments.
    • Scores 69% to 84% on written assessments when applicable.

    “D” Developing the Standard: Student has a beginning understanding of and partially meets the grade level standards

    • Occasionally uses good posture when singing or playing classroom instruments, and demonstrates limited developing performance skills, and requires reminding.
    • Occasionally follows directions but needs to be reminded.
    • Occasionally matches pitches and sings with a developing clear tone.
    • Occasionally echoes and reads some rhythms correctly.
    • Occasionally participates and contributes in class.
    • Occasionally identifies a few basic musical symbols and their meanings.
    • Occasionally distinguishes between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.
    • Occasionally meets the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented and makes a few connections.
    • Completes a few assigned assessments.
    • Scores 51% to 68% on written assessments when applicable.

    “L” Limited Understanding: Student has a limited understanding and does not meet grade-level standards

    • Does not use good posture when singing or playing classroom instruments, and demonstrates improper performance skills after repeated modeling and reminding.
    • Does not follow directions.
    • Does not match pitches or sing with a good clear tone.
    • Does not echo and/or read rhythms correctly.
    • Rarely participates or contributes in class.
    • Cannot identify basic musical symbols and their meanings.
    • Cannot distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.
    • Does not meet the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented.
    • Does not complete assigned assessments.
    • Scores 50% or lower on written assessments when applicable.
