What is a School Social Worker?
School Social Workers are an integral link between school, home, and community in helping students achieve academic success. The School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) explains School Social Workers as "trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavior support, academic and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators, as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy." The Chambersburg Area School District School Social Workers are licensed professionals with a Master's Degree in Social Work. Our job is to help students do well in school by addressing troubles that interfere with learning in any capacity.

Who Receives Services?
The School Social Workers at Chambersburg Area School District work directly with administrators and school counselors as well as students and families, providing mental health intervention, crisis and behavior management, IEP services, and any additional support services. We also connect family members and other individuals in the child's living situation with community resources to assist in the child's adjustment, learning, and development. This includes, but is not limited to, food and housing resources, and mental health resources. As part of an interdisciplinary team to help students succeed, school social workers also facilitate community involvement in the schools while advocating for student success.
