Updates Timeline

  • 02/27/22 - Based on updated CDC guidance, masking will be optional on all district transportation starting tomorrow, Monday, February 28th. For more information, please view the CDC website:

    01/21/22 - CASD parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members are encouraged to give feedback on the current district Health and Safety plan by filling out a survey. Read more:

    01/12/22 - In our attempt to keep students/staff safe and to keep schools open, we are asking for your assistance in slowing the community spread of COVID-19. It is extremely important that you check your child(ren) before they come to school for signs and symptoms that could potentially be from COVID -19. Read more:

    01/11/22 - Beginning on January 24, CASD will provide COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Testing for students and staff who develop symptoms while at school. Parents/Guardians will need to provide consent prior to staff giving the test. We will offer the testing for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year. Read more:

    01/02/22 - The CDC has provided updated guidelines regarding quarantine procedures. Please view those changes in the attached image or read more here:

    12/12/21 - Starting tomorrow, Monday, December 13th, the District will follow masking regulations as set forth in the CASD Health and Safety Plan. Additionally, the plan will be reviewed December 14th, at the Regular School Board Meeting. Read more:

    12/15/21 - At the December 14th Regular School Board Meeting, the CASD Board of Directors reviewed the district Health and Safety Plan and voted to make changes to quarantine procedures. Read more:

    09/21/21 - The Keystone Health Clinic, located at CASHS, can now see students from across the district K-12 and can provide early return for quarantine rapid testing. Read more:

    09/09/21 - Reminder: CASD is obligated to follow the PA Dept. of Health Order Directing Face Coverings in Schools. Please see the updated FAQ that includes potential repercussions if the district fails to implement the order. Read more:

    09/08/21 - Reminder: It is extremely important that you check your child(ren) before they come to school for signs and symptoms that could potentially be from COVID -19. Read more for symptoms:

    09/01/21 - The Acting Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued an order today requiring the universal wearing of facial coverings in all K-12 public schools effective Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. Read more:

    08/19/21 - School starts on Monday, August 23, and we are very excited to have our students back in-person five days a week. We are working diligently on helping to assure the health and safety of students, employees and visitors to our schools. Read more:

    08/04/21 - For the 2021-2022 school year, CASD will be operating on a typical 5 day a week instructional schedule. We would like to provide you with some information as you prepare for your child(ren)’s return to school. Read here:

    07/29/21 - The CASD Board of Directors approved the 2021-2022 Health and Safety Plan, which includes information on COVID mitigation measures for the new school year. Please take a moment to view a special message from the superintendent of schools here:

    07/19/21 - CASD is currently planning on reopening on a 5 day a week typical basis. More information will be provided as plans are finalized prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

    06/24/21 - Effective Tuesday, June 29th, or sooner in accordance with PA mandates, masking will be optional for all CASD staff, students, and visitors.

    06/11/21 - CASD offers 5 days of meals for pick up throughout the summer. All meals are free for children 0-18. Sign up at Contact the CASD food service office at 717-261-3416 with questions.

    06/07/21 - An email with important information regarding the K-12 Summer Learning Program will be sent to those who registered by the end of the day on Thursday, June 10. Please be sure to check the email account that was used to register your child. For information or questions, visit:

    03/25/21 - CASD will continue providing meal pick-up options for all children 0-18 on Wednesdays. 1 and 5 days of meals may be ordered, according to your needs. Meals may be ordered at the link below or by calling the Food Service Department at 717-261-3416.

    03/24/21 - The CASD Board of Directors has approved a motion to return all Hybrid AA/BB students (K-12) to in-person instruction four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday with Wednesdays remaining virtual) effective Monday, March 29th. Read more:

    03/17/21 - The CASD Board of Directors will vote March 23rd on a motion to return all students (K-12) to in-person instruction 4 days a week beginning March 29th. Please choose an instructional option for your student by completing an election form in your student’s sapphire account by Friday, March 19th at midnight. Read more:

    03/05/21 - As we celebrate bringing children back to school via hybrid AA/BB in-person learning, we created a short video showing some of the COVID-19 mitigation measures the district is taking to keep students safe. View here:

    02/24/21 - A motion was made and approved at the February 23rd Regular Board Meeting to return students to Hybrid AA/BB In-person instruction on Monday, March 1st. Please read the following parent letter for important reminders as we transition to hybrid instruction:

    02/17/21 - The CASD Board will discuss and vote at the February 23rd Board Meeting to return students to buildings on Monday, March 1. To help prepare for the potential return of students, please fill out an election survey in your Sapphire account. Read more:

    01/13/21 - A motion was made and approved at the January 12, 2021, Regular School Board Meeting to continue virtual instruction for all CASD students through the end of the third marking period, with in-person instruction resuming on March 29, 2021. Read more:

    12/11/20 - On December 10, Governor Wolf announced additional mitigation measures in response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in PA. View important information regarding this order provided by the PA Department of Education here:

    11/20/20 - Guilford Hills Elementary School will transition to all virtual learning starting Nov. 23 with a tentative return on Dec. 7. The school office will be open Nov. 23 from 9AM-12PM for students to retrieve their belongings. Read more:

    11/19/20 - At the Nov. 17 CASD Regular School Board meeting, a motion was approved to transition CASHS, CMS, CAMS North and CAMS South students to fully virtual instruction from December 3, 2020 to return on January 15, 2021. Read more:

    11/18/20 - Marion Elementary School will transition to all virtual learning starting November 19th with a tentative return on December 3rd. Click here to read more. Scotland Elementary School will transition to all virtual learning starting November 19th with a tentative return on December 3rd. Click here to read more. Both school office will be open Friday, November 20th, from 9:00am-12:00pm for any student, AA or BB, to retrieve their Chromebook and personal belongings.

    11/13/20 - CASD has posted important information on the District website regarding Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs), which can be used in place of what is commonly known as a “snow day.” Read more:

    11/12/20 - CAMS South will transition to all virtual learning starting tomorrow, November 13th, with a tentative return on December 3rd. The office will be open tomorrow from 8:00am-12:00pm for any student to retrieve their Chromebook and other items. Read more:

    11/11/20 - On November 12th, all CASHS students grades 9-12 will begin virtual learning with a tentative return on December 3rd. All students and staff may retrieve belongings tomorrow from 8AM-12PM. Academic instruction will begin at 12:15 PM. Read more:

    11/06/20 - On November 6th, the Chambersburg Area School District administration was notified of four positive cases of COVID-19: one 1st grade and one 3rd grade student at Hamilton Heights Elementary and two 7th grade students at CAMS North. Read more here.

    11/01/20 - On October 30th, the Chambersburg Area School District administration was notified of two positive cases of COVID-19: one at Chambersburg Area Middle School South and one at Scotland Elementary School. The cases involve an 8th grade student and a 3rd grade student. On October 31st, two additional cases were confirmed: one staff member at CAMS South and a 2nd grade student at Hamilton Heights Elementary School. Read more:

    10/23/20 - CASD will host a Farmers to Families Food Box program at the CASHS student parking lot on Wednesday, October 28, from 1-2PM. Families will receive a free box of meat, dairy, produce, and a gallon of milk from the USDA while supplies last. Learn more:

    10/21/20 - Important reminder: Meal pick up day will be on Wednesdays only going forward. You must order meals at the link below prior to picking them up. Please call the Food Service office at 717-261-3391 if you are unsure. Read more:

    10/16/20 - As elementary children return for hybrid instruction on October 19th, please take a moment to review simple steps to take that keep students and staff safe. Read more:

    10/14/20 - Transportation information has been posted to the Sapphire accounts for elementary students returning to school under a hybrid instruction model. Information for secondary students will be released next week. To access your child's account, log in here:

    10/13/20 - CASD Meal Service is changing soon: Wednesday, October 14th, is the last day to sign up for October 19 & 21 meals. As we return to school , meals will need to be ordered a week in advance. More info at:

    10/09/20 - The district has posted important information for parents/guardians regarding the return of students under an AA/BB In-person Model. Read more:

    09/24/20 - On Tuesday, September 22, the CASD Board of Directors approved a plan to provide various educational choices to families including in-person instruction under an “AA/BB” model. Parents/guardians must elect an educational option for their child(ren) by midnight, Monday, September 28th. Read more:

    09/03/20 - CASD is able to provide free meals for children ages 0-18. This is in response to a USDA release on Monday August 31, allowing the summer meal program to extend through December 31, 2020. Read more:

    08/25/20 - The District has posted conditions and factors that will play into the decision to re-open for in-person learning, be it under a blended or full in-person model. View the conditions and future board meeting dates in which they will be discussed here:

    08/19/20 - Starting August 24th, CASD will provide 8 meal pick-up locations for all district students, including students enrolled in CAVE, the Early Learning Center (Pre-K) and Head Start programs in district buildings. Meals must be pre-ordered. Read more:

    08/10/20 - The CASD elementary chromebook distribution schedule has been posted online and includes introduction videos for parents/guardians and students on proper login procedures. Read more:

    08/06/20 - In CASD’s Anytime, Anywhere 1:1 Learning Initiative your child will receive a Chromebook, similar to a small laptop, that they will use for virtual learning at home. Read more here.

    08/05/20 - On August 4th, the CASD school board voted to approve the phased School Reopening Health and Safety Plan for the 2020-2021 school year. This plan includes Virtual Online-Only School Opening for all students (K-12) beginning August 24. Read more:
