WHEN YOU CAN COME TO THE LIBRARY
- You may come to the library on your own before school from 7:30-8:00 AM or after school from 2:45-3:00 PM. No corridor pass is required to come to the library at those times.
- You may drop by the library between classes to return materials or quickly borrow a book. No corridor pass is required to do so, but please note that library staff will not sign your corridor pass to send you to class late.
- You may come to the library on your own during the following times, provided you have teacher permission and a signed orange corridor pass: class, lunch, academic prep/study hall, and activities period.
- If you are coming to the library during academic prep/study hall or lunch, you must stay the entire period (or lunch wave) and may not leave early. So plan accordingly and do not leave anything behind in study hall or the cafeteria.
ORANGE CORRIDOR PASSES
- You must use your orange corridor pass to come to library and not a scrap of paper or post it. (The only permitted substitute for your orange corridor pass is an official hall pass given to you by a teacher.)
- You must use your OWN orange corridor pass, not one that belongs to another student.
- Make sure your name is written at the top of your orange corridor pass.
- Upon arriving to the library, take your orange corridor pass to the teacher desk by the yellow wall.
- At the end of the period (or lunch wave), don't forget to take your orange corridor pass from the teacher desk by the yellow wall. Please be sure that you are taking YOUR orange corridor pass and not someone else's.
- If you have been given permission by your teacher just to "drop by" the library and then go back to class, please have your teacher who signed your orange corridor pass write a quick note explaining that you can return before the end of the period/lunch wave.
GENERAL PROCEDURES
- When coming to the library to stay for a while (and not just dropping by between classes), sign in at the sign-in book at the teacher desk by the yellow wall.
- Sit at any of the tables or computers in the FRONT area of the library by the yellow and blue walls.
- Please sit one person per table.
- Please work quietly.
- Feel free to plug your Chromebook into the Chromebook Charging station and use one of our desktop computers while your Chromebook charges.
- If you use a desktop computer, please use one along the yellow and blue walls. (The "center computers" and library computer lab are used for scheduled classes only.)
- Please use your time in the library to complete school work or read.
- You may NOT have a backpack or gym bag; you will need to leave it in your locker.
POLICIES
-
LIBRARY FINES
- Library fines carry over from one year to the next. So if you have a library fine from elementary or middle school and you haven't taken care of it, the fine is still on your library account.
- If you owe an overdue print library book or a library fine, you are NOT permitted to borrow another library print book until you take care of the overdue book or fine. But you ARE permitted to borrow ebooks.
- You will have to pay any money owed to the library before you are permitted to graduate.
PRINT BOOKS
- You do NOT need a school ID card to borrow a book. You simply can tell us your name and we can look you up in our system. But if you DO have your ID card, it makes the process a bit faster.
- You may borrow a maximum of 5 print books at a time.
- You may keep print books for 3 weeks.
- Each print book that you borrow will get a date due card placed in the pocket in the back of the book. On that card you will see the date that you must return the book to the library.
- If you need a print book longer than three weeks, you can log into your Destiny account and renew the book online or you can drop by the library in person to renew the book. You would not need the book with you to do so.
- If you return a book late, you get charged a fine of 5 cents for each day that a book is late.
EBOOKS
- You may borrow a maximum of 2 ebooks at a time.
- You may keep ebooks for 2 weeks.
- The ebooks automatically return themselves, so you will never get a library fine on an ebook.
- If you need an ebook longer than two weeks, please go into Sora before the due date and renew the ebook.
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT NOVELS
- The library houses class sets of novels that English teachers might use in class. These books are in their own section of the library, and they are arranged alphabetically by book title.
- Library staff will check out these novels to individual students when they are reading a certain novel for English class.
- These novels do NOT count as one of the five print books that you can have checked out. So you could borrow five print library books AND an English Department novel at the same time.
- There is no specific due date for English Department novels. You simply return the novel once you finish with it in English class.
- You do NOT get fines for English Department novels.
- If you do not return an English Department novel by the end of the school year, you will be billed for it and will have to pay for the book in the main office.
