Meet Mrs. Black
I love teaching music to approximately 772 students at Ben Chambers & Marion Elementary Schools. My main goal is to develop a love and appreciation for music in our children that will last a life time. I graduated with "High Distinction" from Penn State and received a B.S. degree in Music Education. I completed graduate courses in Music at Penn State and have a Masters' Equivalency. While at Penn State I was a Dean's List student, a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Alpha Lanbda Delta Honor Society, Penn State Concert Choir, Penn State Singers and Penn State European Choir.
Bofore teaching in the CASD, I taught elementary music in both PA & NJ. Prior to teaching in CASD, I was a Youth & Children's Choirs Director at two large churches in Chambersburg. I have arranged & directed 41 sacred musical programs and have many years of valuable choral experience in providing "special music" for worship services and composing my own sythesizer accompaniments for my choirs. I also taught "Music Adventures" and Summer Music & Drama Camps at Cumberland Valley School of Music, was the female voacalist & keyboardist in a 5 piece band and participated in Community Theater.
Many of my hobbies are centered around music. I love playing the piano, singing, ballroom dancing with my husband & attending the theater; especially musicals. I have written many poems for our elementary spring music concerts and have written lyrics for my music teacher daughter who is a composer. I also enjoy being involved in my church and Sunday School class, traveling with my family, bike riding, walking, playing tennis, cooking, baking and entertaining my family and friends.
