• August 2021

Welcome back to school!  The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 23, 2021.

ESL classes will not begin for a few weeks.  We will be testing to identify new students.  You will be notified if your child will receive ESL instruction after testing is complete.  I will also create a Google Classroom account for each grade level class.  This information will be sent to each student.

    See you soon!

    September 2021

ESL classes will begin on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.  Governor Wolf, in conjunction with the PA Department of Health, issued a mask mandate for school students beginning on September 7.  The Federal order remains that masks must be worn while on public transportation.  Please provide a mask for your student to be worn while at school or while riding a bus to school.

    Thank you.

    October 2021

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on November 3, 4 and 5.  Your child's classroom teacher wil be sending an invitation to participate.  Conferences will be virtual this year.  An interpreter will be provided upon request.  Students will be dismissed two hours early on these days.  Please follow the directions provided to sign up for a conference at your earliest convenience.

    See you soon!

    January 2022

WIDA ACCESS testing begins on January 19 for all current ESL students at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School.  The assessment is given each January or February to measure student growth in English language proficiency..

Students will complete a Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking test.  Scores determine placement in ESL services for next year and will be made available to parents at a later date.

Students, please remember to get a good night's sleep, have a nutritious breakfast at home or at school (the cafeteria opens for breakfast at 8:40 AM each day), and remember to bring your Chromebook, charger, and headset to school each day.

    Thank you.

    April 2022

PSSA testing begins the week of April 25 for students in Grades 3, 4, and 5. Please prepare your child for testing by doing the following things:

Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast.  If your child plans to eat breakfast at school, they may arrive at 8:40 AM.

Be on time for school.  Test sessions are scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM (or shortly thereafter) in the morning.  Students are expected to bring a fully-charged Chromebook, charger, earbuds, and case to school each day.  Testing will be administered online this year.

Tell your child not to worry!  We have been preparing for the PSSA tests all year.  Now students are asked to "show what they know."  All we ask is that children try to do their best each day.

Students in Grade 2 will remain with their classroom teachers on test days.

    Thank you for your support.
