    “4” Student exceeds standards.  Student makes connections beyond what is taught.

    Always uses good posture when singing or playing the recorder, and demonstrates performance skills beyond what is taught in the classroom.

    Always does exceptionally well on written tests (4th & 5th).

    Always brings the recorder to class (3rd & 4th) and assists students in all recorder fundamentals.

    Always does well on recorder playing tests (3rd & 4th)

    Can play the recorder notes beyond what is taught in the class correctly with correct hand positions. (3rd & 4th)

    Follows directions and leads others without prompting in tasks. 

    Matches pitches and sings with a good clear tone.

    Echoes and reads rhythms correctly beyond what is taught in the class.

    Leads, participates and contributes in class.

    Can identify musical symbols and their meanings beyond what is taught in the class.

    Can distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.

    Meets the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented and makes connections beyond what is taught in class and cross the curriculum.

     

    “3” Student meets standards.  Student consistently and accurately completes tasks without help. 

    Always uses good posture when singing or playing the recorder.

    Always does well on written tests (4th & 5th)

    Remembers to bring recorder to class. (3rd &  4th)

    Always does well on recorder playing tests. (3rd & 4th)

    Can play the recorder notes correctly with correct hand positions. (3rd & 4th)

    “2” Student is approaching the standards.  Student requires some help or prompting. 

    Usually uses good posture when singing or playing the recorder but may require reminding.

    Usually receives a passing grade on written tests. (4th & 5th)

     Usually remembers to bring recorder to class. (3rd - 4th)

     Can play some recorder notes correctly with correct hand positions. (3rd - 4th)

     Usually receives a passing grade on recorder playing tests. (3rd & 4th)

     Usually follows directions but may need to be reminded.

     Usually matches pitches and sings with a good clear tone.

     Echoes and reads some rhythms correctly.

     Usually participates and contributes in class.

     Can identify some basic musical symbols and their meanings.

     Can sometimes distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft.

     Usually meets the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented.

     

    “1” Student is not meeting the standards. Student requires significant support.

    Rarely uses good posture when singing or playing the recorder.

     Does not receive passing grade on written tests. (4th & 5th)

     Frequently forgets to bring recorder to class, so is not prepared to participate & learn. (3rd & 4th)

     Plays recorder notes incorrectly and/or with incorrect hand positions.(3rd & 4th)

     Does not receive a passing grade on recorder playing test. (3rd & 4th)

     Does not follow directions.

     Does not match pitches or sings with a good clear tone.

    Does not echo or read rhythms correctly.

    Rarely participates or contributes in class.

    Cannot identify basic musical symbols and their meanings.

    Cannot distinguish between high and low, fast and slow, loud and soft. 

    Does not meet the objectives of the music lessons as they are presented.
