- Meet Mrs. Ocker
-
Hello! My name is Mrs. Ocker. I am an ESL teacher at Benjamin Chambers Elementary. Before teaching ESL, I taught Special Education for the Chambersburg Area School District for eleven years. I also taught elementary education in Johnstown, PA for a year after my undergraduate studies.
I received my Elementary Education Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. I decided to continue my education at Shippensburg University where I received my Master's Degree in Special Education. Ready for a new adventure, I completed my ESL Certification and have been enjoying my ESL students ever since.
When I am not teaching, I am a wife and mother of two awesome children. My daughter, Kloe, and son, Luke, are the greatest joys of my life. My family and I like to ride bikes, hike, travel (especially to the beach), and read. Everything we do together is fun.
As in my home, I foster a caring and respectful environment in my classroom. I believe that all children should feel safe to take risks and make errors, then work to correct them. Every child learns differently, and I do my best to accommodate many learning styles throughout my lessons. I feel that it is not only my job to teach the curriculum but to foster positive relationships and prepare students to be successful adults and life-long learners.
