Khan Academy
I have recently introduced the 5th grade students to a website called Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org/). This website is a wonderful resource for students who are struggling with a particular concept or who would like some additional help. The site provides opportunities for students to practice a concept or watch Khan teach a lesson. There are over 3,400 videos on topics in math, science, and the humanities. These videos are very detailed but also easy to follow. This website is completely free of charge and also a not-for-profit organization. The goal of the site is to change education for the better by providing a free world-education for anyone anywhere. Many, if not all, of the concepts taught in math class this year have videos on this site. If you feel that your child needs additional help, this is an excellent source to know about! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this site or math class in general. -

Pearson Investigations Series
I use the Investigation series to conduct most of the math lessons. On this site, you will be able to find lessons and concepts that I’m doing in class. You will also be able to find many of the math games we play in class. This is an excellent resource for those students who may be struggling and need additional help at home. Perimeter, Area, and Measuring Practice
Amy and her brother, Ben, explain how to find the area and perimeter of rectangles and show you how changing the perimeter of a rectangle affects its area. After the lesson, you have an opportunity to measure the length and width of a variety of rectangles and calculate the area and perimeter of each. -
