    WORKPLACE SAFETY COMMITTEE

  • Pennsylvania Worker's Compensation Act of 1993 encourages all educational entities to establish workplace safety committees.  The benefits of a safety committee include a reduction in the number of injuries, costs attached to the number of injuries and illnesses, and an increase in safety awareness.

    In addition, insurance providers will grant a 5% discount in worker's compensation rates for institutions who have a certified Workplace Safety Committee.

    The three basic functions of a Workplace Safety Committee are:

    • to detect safety hazards in the workplace;
    • to analyze and solve safety problems in order to reduce the risk of workplace injuries and illnesses;
    • to assist in the management of safety.

    The CASD Workplace Safety Committee was created in November of 2009.  Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month.
