February 17, 2021 - Reopening Update & Parent/Guardian Election Survey

Dear CASD families,

Last evening, at the CASD School Board Committee of the Whole meeting, a discussion was held to return students to the K-12 Hybrid AA/BB In-person Instructional Model on Monday, March 1, 2021.  The CASD Board will discuss and vote on a motion at the February 23rd Regular Board Meeting to do so. While a board vote is pending, please carefully review the instructional options that will be available to your student, should the motion be approved.

  1. Hybrid AA/BB In-person Instructional Model: “AA/BB” means that students in the “A” group will attend in person on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students in the “B” group will attend in person on Thursdays and Fridays. Students with last names A-K will attend Mondays and Tuesdays, and students with last names L-Z will attend Thursdays and Fridays (students with different last names in the same household will attend based on the last name of the oldest sibling.). When students are not in person, they may either be working independently or be in a virtual lesson with their teacher. Certain students with special education or EL programming will attend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, all students will complete assigned course work independently.
  2. Virtual Instruction: Following our current model, students will log into Google classrooms/Google Meet and receive live virtual instruction from teachers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, students will complete assigned course work independently.
  3. Chambersburg Area Virtual Education (CAVE): Students engage in virtual learning at their own pace by logging into the CASD learning management system and completing assignments. Student schedules are determined by the parent/guardian.

To help with the planning and preparation for the potential return of students, please take a few minutes to fill out the election survey below by Friday, February 19, at 5:00 pm. This form will indicate the instructional model for your student. Please fill out an election survey for each student in your household. The survey is located within the Sapphire Community Web Portal account for your student.
